In October, Cultivate Advisors partnered with Homes of Hope to build a home for a deserving family.

Twenty-four members of the Cultivate Community participated in the project, including 13 adults and 11 children. VP of Operations for Cultivate Advisors, Jeff Rendell, and his family recruited Colin Bowman, Kyle Werych, Amy Jones, Hayden Fulstone, Jennifer Dreyfus, and Nancy Benjamin, of Cultivate, along with a couple of friends and fellow business owners to join him in Mexico with Homes of Hope to build a house for the Velazquez Paniagua family.

Homes of Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing hope to hardworking families globally. Since 1990, more than 100,000 volunteers have built nearly 6,000 homes.

“It was really transformational to see what a small group of individuals could do in 2 days. How you could literally build a house for a family and change the trajectory of that family’s life forever,” says Jeff Rendell. “Generations will change because of that one house. Those four kids will now have an opportunity to better excel in school and break the cycle of poverty in their family.”

Cultivate Advisors sponsored the cost of materials to build the home, but the project could not be complete without volunteers who dedicated their time, covered their own room/board and travel costs.  In addition the team of 24 raised an additional $2,000 that allowed the group to take the family on a shopping spree where they got enough non-perishable food to last a full year.

After two days of building alongside the Velazquez Paniagua family, the team had a chance to close out and share their biggest takeaways.  “It was pretty emotional; a lot of tears were shed when we handed over the keys to the family. The group is forever changed,” says Rendell, who hopes to continue driving these trips with the Cultivate Community.
